Death in My Palm

Saw baby squirrels today.
There were two.
Fallen from the tree
Because strong winds blew.
Picked them up to see if they were alive
Yes, they were,
But one couldn't survive.
He breathed his last in my palm
My heart broke, i lost my calm.
It felt like losing someone close.
Felt so weak and filled with remorse.
Prayed for his soul
And gave it to nature so he may serve all.

Dried and warmed the other
Placed him on the tree close to his mother.
Will go & check on him tomorrow
In the hope that I lessened a mother's sorrow
She must be broken having lost them two
Like I was when I lost you
